A LIPSTICK LOVE-AFFAIR

Meet Matt(e), the new lover for your lips – Liquid lipsticks have been on trend for a while now. Almost every make-up brand came out with their own version, from Bobbi Brown to the more budget-friendly ones. Warmer months are usually filled with glossy and moisture-rich make-up looks but since matte became the new moisture, it seems like this trend isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

SHOP MISS A

With that being said, let’s continue with my review of the new Kleancolor Mattes & Metallics from Shopmissa.com. Shop Miss A is a Texas- based company that provides cruelty-free beauty and make-up at only $1. These Kleancollr lipsticks are available in various stores and they can be bought as a bundle or seperately on Shop Miss A.

“Miss A is a pet-friendly and animal loving company. We neither condone, nor support the selling of products tested on animals. While we do not manufacture the products we sell, we have confirmed with all of our beauty/cosmetics brands and they insist – they do not test on animals.”

SWATCHES

I’ve included my own swatches of the new metallic shades as well as the ones from Shopmissa’s snapchat story below. If you’re not into rocking a full metallic lip, you can also use them as a liptopper to make your lips look more plump when you focus the lipstick on the centre of your lips. My favorite trick when I’m on-the-go is blending a little bit of Metal Rose into a lipgloss, especially on humid days or days when I literally have no time to get ready at all and I need to be somewhere in like 5. Let’s face it, we’ve all been there. I just love sitting down to do my make-up, have a drink, watch Netflix and at the end finishing up my make-up look with a lip liner while being happy having a steady hand for once to get that flawless application. On most days, this is not the case at all.

THIS TIME BABY I’LL BE BULLETPROOF

On the next few photos,  I demonstrated how longlasting they really are. I couldn’t get them off by using just water as you can see. I used an old towel and a bar of soap to demonstrate what would happen when trying to wipe the liquid lipsticks off without an effective make-up eraser like Clinique’s Take The Day Off Balm. You can also see I rubbed pretty hard in order for the lipstick to move around a little bit. These ones are long-lasting without a doubt. They do tend to stain the lips but as I said, when using coconut oil or Clinique’s Take The Day Off balm this wasn’t the case.

I’ve inserted some direct info from Kleancolor’s website:

“Each of the 48 gorgeous shades of Madly Matte Lip Gloss provides rich color in a matte finish for all day wear without drying. It goes on as a highly pigmented liquid and dries to a smooth matte finish. Lips are colored in velvety perfection that lasts. So grab one… or 48 and go! You’re off to a smooth start with Madly Matte Lip Gloss from Kleancolor.”

  • Long Lasting
  • Rich color
  • Matte Finish
  • No dry feeling

Madly Matte Metallic Lip Gloss goes on smooth and dries to a lustrous, multidimensional finish with a transfer resistant formula.  Mesmerize in these 24 shades that are loaded with metallic pigments and will add a sexy spark to your pout.”

  • Smooth texture
  • Fast drying
  • Multidimensional finish
  • Transfer resistant

KISS(PROOF)

The scent is identical to coconuts. The overall application does vary by color. Some of the more brighter shades are a bit blotchy but this can be prevented by using a matching lip liner all over the lips before applying, and then applying 2 layers of it. Most of the colors I own are pretty opaque and solid, especially the browns and nudes.

The formula is a combination between liquid and mousse, which I love. It’s not too thin but not too thick either. The formula can be a little drying and they aren’t completely matte, but they are matte enough to where it doesn’t really transfer, in other words,  kiss-proof. They do last quite awhile, even after eating and drinking, licking your lips unknowingly, talking, etc. and the feel of the lipstick isn’t unpleasant at all. Now, let’s talk packaging!

The packaging is solid. It holds a normal amount of product, just like any other brand that makes liquid lipsticks. And it had a doe-foot applicator which I like. The wand doesn’t wiggle or bend, it’s just very stiff, which makes it easier for me to manipulate where I want the product to go.

Conclusion:

Kleancolor did an amazing job with these budgetfriendly liquid lipsticks, the shade range contains around 48 shades and 24 metallics and are a great option for those of you who are just starting out or those who want to experiment with different textures and colors (the have a bright metallic yellow and a hot purple) but don’t want to spend a lot of money.

BUCKINGHAM & BUSINESS

MIND THE GAP

When I was writing this, the words ‘next stop Euston Station’ echoed throughout the carriage. It’s 8:40AM already and I have a meeting at Euston Tower at 9. We’ve only just arrived last night. I walk as quickly as I can along the platform and pay no attention to my surroundings apart from that one guy who’s busking and singing with particulary high standard vocals while quickly checking my notebook to see which floor I’m suppossed to be on, as Euston Tower is a 34-storey office building designed by Sidney Kay and was originally planned as one of three identical buildings.

BUSINESS OR PLEASURE?

After my meeting at Euston, I headed over to Defected Records to talk about recent artist releases, the world of A&R, I got the privilege to listen to some new songs by recently signed artists at this label and how they were discovered. We also discussed trends and how the industry is evolving. After some sight-seeing, me and a couple of friends headed out for dinner and drinks at Bella Italia, an Italian restaurant that serves fresh pasta, crispy hand-stretched pizzas, Italian grills and classics yet tempting desserts. After too many wines and our busy schedules in mind, we decided to call it a night around 12.

PITCH & PASTA

The next day we sat down for homemade pasta and tea with Chris Fowler who’s a PR specialist and founder of Mint PR, a small agency based in London founded in 2003. He’s clearly a storyteller and I’m very intrigued on his take in the wonderful world of communications. He delivers savvy media campaigns and embraces both new and traditional media. He definitely excels at working across all media platforms as he discusses his latest campaign.

After our afternoon tea, we took a taxi back to Picadilly Circus. We explored the city of London by foot. We went to Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London and took way too many selfies on the Tower bridge. We did some serious shopping damage over at Urban Decay, Benefit Cosmetics, Charlotte Tilbury, Boots and ZARA.

The next day we slept in and headed over to Portobello Road Market, Shoreditch Market and Camden Town in the afternoon. After dinner, we went out and explored nightlife in the Soho area. I really wanted to see what the LGBTQ community was like here. To be honest, I don’t remember the namens of the places we went to for drinks but I do remember a conversation with a dapper, short-haired brunette and a glass of whiskey.

On day four, we headed over to the PRCA headquarters around 10am and had an early lunch before heading to Buckingham Palace to see the change of guards. We spend our last hours in Londen around the Covent Garden area and Regent Street. We saw several street theater performances and overheared some amazing buskers play the most insane medleys while roaming the streets. We showed them some love by handing out pocket change. We actually ended up talking to a young man on the tube who spends his time busking after school. We headed back to our hotel and did some shopping at Boots which was near Russel Sq Station where we’d been staying for the past few days. With that being said, our business trip slowly came to an end.

After what seemed to be an impossible scenario (making sure that we could fit all of our stuff back into our suitcases since we basically cleaned out the entire ZARA store and then some), we took a taxi back to St Pancras Station.

We felt so bougie and ‘jetlagged’ with our suitcased piled up in the isle on the Thalys in our ‘clochard de luxe’ outfits meaning we looked like the cast from Sex And The City after Big left Carrie at the alter and they had a small sit-in at Charlotte’s . Epic trip.

NOIR IS THE NEW BLACK

SHOP NOIR

As the title might suggest; yes (!) Orange Is The New Black just premiered on Netflix and no, I haven’t been able to binge-watch the new episodes yet. The title refers to Shop Noir, a  fashionstore for ladies in the heart of Maastricht and offers an affordable mix of French, Dutch and Scandinavian brands. For an even bigger selection of statement bags and jewelry there’s another gem right across the street, Noir Shoes & Bags – with its a vintage gymnasial floor, decorated with rings, a turntable and wooden details.

WYCK, MAASTRICHT

Here you can find a broad and curated collection of beautiful backpacks, handbags and shoes from their slightly alternative collection. Noir, that already has two business in Wyck, now gets a third location in the center of Maastricht (The Netherlands).

Three and a half years ago, the Noir imperium was founded by Renée Reinders, an entrepreneur and savvy businesswoman. She runs her business with her partner in crime, Liesbeth Bertens. Renée started Noir as an intimate boutique in Wyck with a webshop. Then Noir Shoes & Bags was added tot the Noir family. Quickly after, there was Soldes Boutique , the outlet-version of Noir.

The brands you can find at Noir are Vanessa Wu, Dr. Denim, MbyM, Just Female, Selected Femme, Pop Cph, O My Bag, Cowboysbag, Herschel, Another Project, Clarck, Royal Republiq, Maison Shoeshibar, Nike, Shoe to Bear, Vagabond & Bronx. And almost every item that is sold in stores is available online.

SHOP ‘TILL YOU DROP

The NOIR-team  always makes sure that your items arrive safely and secure via your local postcarrier/mail. In my case, it’s always Post NL. The items are being delivered in their trademark black packaging and wrapping paper and with a cool gadget (tote bag) that says ‘Noir is the new black’.

My first ever pair that I bought were these black two-toned brogues with pink toe detailling on the front by Vanessa Wu.

Fun fact: after buying so many Vanessa Wu shoes and spamming my Instagram with pictures of my #ootd, I got asked to be a brand ambassador for a year! This was back in 2016. Still to this day, I am grateful for being given this opportunity. I will dedicate an entire blogpost about Vanessa Wu soon!

“SOMETIMES I WANT A QUIET LIFE. OTHER TIMES I WANT TO GO A LITTLE BIT FUCKING GATSBY”. – ATTICUS

I went a little bit Gatsby on my second purchase and immediately bought two pairs of Bronx brogues. These ones were on sale and I fell in love with them! Based not only on their appearance but on their fit! I’ve always loved this English boarding school kinda preppy style of shoe and I’ve noticed most shoes tend to hurt your feet or cause blisters, even after long-wear. Up until this very day, I haven’t gotten any issues with these ones. Brogues, in general, are so versitile, you can wear them with almost every outfit, from casual to “caviar and champagne, please”.

“SHOP NOIR IS CONTEMPORARY AND TRENDY, WITH A FINE VINTAGE FEELING.” – BRONX

Bronx, a brand that’s being sold at Noir dedicated a entire blogpost on their website about this growing business. You read it here.

I highly recommend visiting their webshop and going to the Noir stores in Maastricht not only for personal advice or an update on the latest trends but for an overall experience. If you ‘re still on the hunt for unique shoes or jewelry, a killer dress for an upcoming wedding party or any other formal event – if you are in need of a head-to-toe last-minute outfit or just a single statement piece, Noir is the placet to be.

MORE (SKIN) ISSUES THAN VOGUE

IMAGE SKINCARE TRIAL PERIOD & REVIEW

Image Skin Care is a West Palm beach, Florida-based skin care company founded in 2003 by Janna Ronert, a business graduate from the University of Nebraska.
Today, the company’s full line of professional skin care products is now available in many different countries across the world, providing skincare products and solutions with high quality, and typically a higher concentration of active ingredients than brands you can buy in department stores.

LET’S FACE IT

Image Skin Care products claim to target five major problems: wrinkles, UV damage from the sun, Rosacea, acne problems, and prematurely aging skin. Image Skin Care has a full line of anti-aging and organic items which include facial peels, washes, concealers, skin toners, and skin and lip enhancement products. All of their products are paraben free which is a huge bonus! The company also has a line of professional skin care products.

VITAL C & ORMEDIC TRIAL KITS

I got send both the Vital C and the Ormedic trial kits. Both used to target different skin issues: Vital C rehydrates, repairs and renews the skin while Ormedic restores, balances and regenerates the skin. The Prevention+ samples were included in both kits.

The first item I used was the Ormedic balancing facial cleanser after work while removing most of my make-up with a regular make-up wipe beforehand and didn’t even use my Clinique Take The Day Off balm because I wanted to give the cleanser its fullest potential. After rinsing it off, it felt like my skin got a deep cleanse and my skin also felt thighter.
Later that night, I used the the Vital C line which contains a rich blend of natural botanicals, high in antioxidants for ultimate skin nutrition and has a yummy citrus scent made for all skin types, from dry and dehydrated to sensitive/rosacea, sun damaged or sun burned, oily/acne prone skin, eczema, and even post-treatment skin which is awesome because I’ve had a Fraxel CO2 treatement done recently and I was looking out for a new skincare routine!

I was very fortunated to try 5 of the Vital C line products and 5 of the Ormedic line and I’m going to continue to review these trial periods over the course of the next few days.

The Vital C Hydrating Serum feels more like a silky lotion, which surprised me at first as most serums are more liquid-y formula also contains Vitamins A and E, hyaluronic acid and green tea + meadowsweet which are both anti-inflammatories. It soothed my skin and it gave me the moisture I needed. It has a citrus-kinda scent but I didn’t find this too overpowering. It hydrated my skin so well that it made me feel like I didn’t even need a separate moisturizer.

After washing my face, I applied the Vital C serum, waited a few minutes, then applied the cream. It’s a fantastic combination if you need hydration, repair, or want to reduce redness. The Vital C line, used in combination, worked really well and the liquids absorbed quickly into the skin. This is a very rich cream however, so if you have very oily skin, or more aged skin, you may want to try their Image Ageless line, which contains glycolic acid and retinol, or the Clear Cell line with salicylic acid for acne prone skin as far as I can recommend by doing some research and reading the brochure that came with my package.

The Ormedic face cleanser performed the same as the Vital C one. As far as the face masks, I liked the Ormedic one alot, my skin felt hydrated and it balanced out my complexion as well.

SWATCHES

I’ve also included photos of the inside of the actual products itself so you can see the consistensy, colors and textures as well as swatches of their conceal foundation alongside some of my other products.

On the last photo, I provided swatches of the Bourjois 123 Perfect foundation in shade 53, the Prevention+ tinted moisturizer and the Vichy Dermablend 3D correction in shade 25 nude. Bourjois had a more silky texture and has a buildable medium coverage with a semi-matte finish. It’s has a ‘your skin but better kinda finish’, and leaves your skin looking radiant and glowy. The Vichy Dermablend is super matte, the shade is not only too dark for me but the formula is also very drying. This would be perfect for someone who has severe skin problems, acne prone or oily skin and wants a long-lasting finish. I swatched these foundations purely for reference and out of curiosity.

The swatch in the middle is the Prevention+ daily tinted oil-free moisturizer with an SPF of 30! The shade unfortunately didn’t match me, but my sister seemed to like it so far. The regular sunscreen didn’t give me that infamous white looking face and blended into my skin quickly.

The Conceal foundation by Image Skin Care also didn’t match my skintone, but that didn’t stop me from trying it out. I swatched the product itself on the side of my face to see how well it would perform; it had a beautiful finish and texture, yet I wish I could wear their foundation throughout the day and see how it would wear.

BEAUTIFUL INSIDE AND OUT

There was also a sample of their skin supplements in the box. At first, I wasn’t quite sure about how the Yana daily collageen supplement would taste so I mixed it with some water and it tasted like orange juice! The taste was suprisingly good but I would have to test these supplements in the long run to see the effect it has on my skin.

The last item I tested was the Prime Flawless Blur Gel, I wore the gel formula underneath my make-up yesterday as a primer and it did blur out my pores. I used the foundation L’oreal True Match in shade R2/N2 Vanilla Rose and got a bit oily throughout the day which was understandable as it was around 28°C, even though I used a translucent powder that morning. After blotting, I could continue to enjoy my day with radiant looking skin. The only noticable thing were my smile lines which pretty much always seems to happen so it didn’t bother me at all.

CONCLUSION

For anyone looking for a skincare brand that tackles various skin issues from A to Z, Image Skincare might be the right match for you. However, I can’t seem to decide between the Vital C line and the Ormedic one. They both do different things and complement eachother perfectly. I honestly feel like you can combine several products from within each line to create your own personal routine and creatie the perfect fit.

NYX COSMETICS REVIEW + SWATCHES

NYX Cosmetics is a cosmetics company founded in Los Angeles by Toni Ko. NYX started as being a small company back in May 1999, named after Nyx, Greek goddess of the night.

Recently, NYX opened a new flagshipstore in my hometown! I went to the store-opening and got to see their MUA’s at work, talk to other bloggers, preview and swatch some of their new items and shop! What I love about NYX is the consistency in their productlines, they set the tone for many trends and various looks. I alsof admire how they actknowledge and showcase talented people in the make-up community with their annual NYX Face Awards as well as on their social media by reposting the work of talented people using NYX goodies.

I was finally able to get my hands on the Nyx Extra Creamy Round Lipsticks and thought it would be helpful to swatch and compare some of the shades I got for those of you who are curious or looking to buy NYX products .

If you are unfamiliar with the Nyx Extra Creamy Round Lipsticks, they are very creamy and pigmented, but do not have the longest wear. This is a classic lipstick for all-year round. The mineral-based emollient formula offers a beautiful velvet texture, saturated color. The NYX Round Lipstick is available in a jaw-dropping 126 shades. I got the shades Christie, Ciel Rose, Paparazzi, Minimaliste and Figue.

This lipstick is creamy, so the result is slightly opaque. Also because of this consistency, it tends to melt easily in humid weather. If you’d like to expand your make up collections but you’re on a budget, just starting out and still experimenting with different finishes and shades or you prefer a more natural make-up look, go for this one. The shades Christie and Ciel Rose are great lip toppers too! But if you can afford to spend more money on a lipstick within the NYX range, I would suggest you go for the NYX Matte lipsticks which are rich in pigment and long-lasting! Here are some color comparisons and swatches of a few different shades that I own.

The shades Sierra and Eurotrash from the NYX Matte collection are still on my wishlist as well as the liquid lipstick shades ‘Bedtime Flirt’, ‘French Maid’, ‘Cashmere Silk’ and ‘Ruffle Trim’ from the Lip Lingerie range.

Which ones are on your wishlist?

Update on last weeks’ blogpost: I went shopping this weekend and added 2 new NYX Matte Lipsticks to my collection, named Spirit and Eurotrash. Both Whipped Caviar and Eurotrash are allegedly dupes for Velvet Teddy.
